Syllabus
Course Description
Major Concepts/Content. The purpose of this course is to enable students to communicate ideas or concepts through the use of design and composition while making critical judgments and showing an appreciation and cultural awareness of the world around them. It is concerned with independent visual perception and aesthetic execution in the development of an idea, theme or subject. They will demonstrate their ability to select and control materials while analytically recording from direct observation and personal experience.
The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
-Two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, technology, techniques, and processes.
-Safe, effective, and appropriate use of tools, materials, and techniques
-Creation of works of art that uses the elements of art and the principles of design to communicate ideas and express concepts and feelings.
-Elements and principles of design
-Reasoning and critical thinking skills
-Interrelationships between design and other subject areas
-Historical and cultural connections -Critical analysis and aesthetic evaluation of works of art which are relevant and the use of appropriate vocabulary and technical terms
-Sustained personal work, from inception towards a resolution, showing experimentation and development of ideas, themes, or subjects

F. GRADING PLAN
Coursework will be weighted as follows:

Test:
There will be two major vocabulary tests. Vocabulary test will relate to current and previous topics. Students will be notified in advance, when a vocabulary test will be administered.

Grading Rubrics for Each classroom project is worth 5 points
1. Technique
2. Knowledge of content (vocabulary)
3. Craftsmanship
4. Effort
5. Project Completion ( fully colored, or shaded)
Semester Assignments and Points
Note: Each category below will have vocabulary words, research, sketches, and prep assignments and will consist of one major project worth 5 points.

7. Texture 5%
8. Vocabulary Test 2 20%
9. Final Exam: AICE Research and Performance Based Painting, Drawing, or Sculpture 35%
G. CLASSROOM RULES OF CONDUCT
1. Talk Quietly!
2. No MP3s, cell phones, or radios are allowed in class.
3. Keep Your Areas Clean.
4. Food and beverages are not permitted in the classroom. This includes plate lunches, drinks, candy, etc. whether opened or not.
